Research in computer vision depends mainly on low level image processing, such as image segmentation, to identify the object regions present in the image and mid-level image analysis tasks, such as texture characterization for global and local knowledge representation. There are various associations of image segmentation and texture analysis with computer vision and pattern recognition related high level tasks, like classification, retrieval, recognition and scene understanding.
